Why I’m Asking Orem to Protect Long‑Time, Good STR Operators

Almost eight years ago, I purchased my home with a clear purpose—and with explicit permission from the City of Orem to operate a short‑term rental. From day one, I have followed every rule, kept my property in excellent condition, and remained fully owner‑occupied, living on‑site to ensure my STR is respectful, quiet, and a positive part of our neighborhood.

I love Orem.
I love my neighbors.
And I love the community we’ve built here.
That’s why this new STR proposal worries me. While I understand the city’s desire to address problem rentals, the current draft would unintentionally shut down residents like me—responsible, long‑standing operators who were originally approved by the City itself.
I hope Orem will consider creating exceptions for good operators who have demonstrated years of compliance, safety, and community harmony. We’ve done everything right. We’ve invested in our homes, supported local businesses, and maintained the character of our neighborhoods.
All I’m asking is the chance to continue living in—and contributing to—the city I love.
